Every carpet installation involves seams, the join lines where two lengths of carpet meet. In a well-installed floor, these joins are virtually invisible and hold firmly for years. But carpets under regular traffic, exposed to repeated cleaning, or fitted some years ago can develop seam failures: the bonding tape loses adhesion, the edges begin to separate, and what was once a seamless floor becomes a visible split, a fraying line, or a ridge that catches underfoot. Carpet reseaming is the specialist repair that fixes this properly.
At Carpet Repair Services, we carry out reseaming using professional heat-bonding equipment and high-grade seaming tape, the same standard used in a quality original installation. The split edges are prepared carefully, the tape is activated with a seaming iron set to the correct temperature, and the two sections are pressed firmly together along the full length of the join. When done correctly, a reseam is structurally strong, sits flat with the surrounding carpet, and blends in naturally with the existing pile. We do not use adhesive-only methods or cold-bond tape, which tend to fail again within months.
A carpet seam that has failed doesn’t stay static — it gets worse with every pass of foot traffic or a vacuum cleaner. The exposed fibres at the split edge begin to fray, frayed fibres pull further loose, and the gap widens progressively. What starts as a cosmetic issue becomes a structural one. Our technician examines the full length of the failed seam, trims back any frayed fibres that cannot be incorporated into the repair, and seaming tape beneath the join. Using a calibrated seaming iron, we heat-activate the tape and press the two edges together.
Once complete, the repaired seam is checked along its full length, any surface pile is re-aligned by hand, and the area is left clean. The join should be difficult to find even when you know where to look. Our reseaming work is guaranteed, if the repair fails within the warranty period, we return and put it right at no charge.
